Computer Forensics
The Challenges
Millions of people around the world use PCs, mobile phones, instant messaging, internet phones and video. All of these data sources are considered digital evidence.
Collection methods and decisions made at the beginning of the eDiscovery process directly affect the ultimate outcome of a case. The cost and difficulty of accessing electronically stored information is no longer an excuse not to produce data - even old backup tapes are subject to discovery. Contamination of digital evidence (spoliation) during collection can cause vast amounts of data to be destroyed or altered before copying, and can be viewed as gross negligence by courts.
LDM Global Forensic Solutions
LDM Global has the resources to go anywhere in the world to extract data. Our team has extensive international experience, and has worked in challenging conditions across five continents. We ensure clients can demonstrate a “reasonable” search has been conducted of pertinent data sources, and that evidence is suitable for courts.
We use practices for forensic collection and processing based on procedures developed through accepted community standards and in-house experience. LDM Global forensic practices include:
-
Making bit stream copies of all media received from the client with a tool that protects the source media
-
Protecting production copies of all media with a hardware tool write blocker to prevent contamination
-
Using a comprehensive tracking and cataloguing process prior to, and in process of, collecting electronically stored information to ensure data integrity and chain of custody
-
Indexing for data extraction to provide detailed audit capability.
The LDM Global Forensics Process
