LDM Global’s Channel Islands Director Sean Cordes has obtained his X-PERT certification, joining a small group of forensics professionals holding the certification globally. Administered by X-Ways, the credential is earned by passing a hands-on examination that provides an objective measure of an individual’s mastery of forensics and the X-Ways tool.
To receive the certification, individuals must “not only have relatively broad practical knowledge of computer forensics and the concepts that play a role in this field (physical data storage concepts, operating system data structures, file types, file formats, file systems, hashing, character sets)” but also be very familiar with the X-Ways Forensics software, according to www.x-ways.net. There are fewer than 50 experts holding the certification worldwide.
Cordes’ expertise is in data handling and analysis in the fields of eDisclosure and computer forensics. He is currently based in Guernsey in the Channel Islands after having worked in both the United States and British Virgin Islands. Cordes’ experience working with a variety of cases includes international intellectual property and corporate espionage disputes, large bankruptcy cases and cross-border fraud investigations. Cordes is also a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner.
Cordes was drawn to forensics after working at a private security company and decided to focus on it as a career. “One of the things I really like about working in forensics is getting to the root of a client’s problem and being able to resolve it in a way that they hadn’t considered,” he said. “One of my favorite parts is to delve into someone’s matter and come up with the best solution for them. My proudest moments are when a client comes back and says he or she had never thought of that approach before.”
LDM Global focuses on consultancy to add value to clients’ businesses through eDisclosure and computer forensics. Clients say they appreciate the proactive approach to improving efficiency and communication on cases, often leading to increased referrals and repeat business.
“Sean’s attention to detail makes him especially well-suited for forensics work, which needs to be systematic and repeatable,” said LDM Global CEO Chris O’Reilly. “He frequently travels to oversee collections around the world as well as performing remote collections and ensures that clients understand the outcome and how to use the data collected. We’re excited Sean has added this certification to his skillset.”
